Checked baggage to Zimbabwe depends on the airline and the fare
There is no single baggage allowance for flights from the UK to Zimbabwe. Each airline sets its own, and the number of bags and the weight limit can change with your fare and cabin. This page sets out what Air Zimbabwe, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Emirates each publish for checked baggage, so you can plan your packing before you book.
Every figure in the table above comes from the airline's own baggage page, which we read on 3 October 2026. We name each airline so you can see exactly whose rule you are reading. If we could not read an airline's page, we left that airline out instead of guessing.
Air Zimbabwe from London Gatwick
Air Zimbabwe's published international allowance is 2 pieces of 23 kg in Economy and 3 pieces of 23 kg in Business. No single piece can weigh more than 32 kg, and you cannot pool weight between bags. If your fare allows two bags of 23 kg, one heavy bag and one light bag will still trigger a charge for the heavy one. Split heavy items across your suitcases.
The airline's own baggage page also lists separate rows for regional and domestic flights, which do not apply to a UK to Harare trip. Air Zimbabwe sells the ticket and Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas operates the aircraft on its behalf, so ask us to confirm which baggage rules your ticket follows.
Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Emirates
Ethiopian Airlines gives a general free allowance of 2 pieces of 23 kg each in Economy, and says the allowance depends on the route and the class. Treat that as typical, not as a promise for your flight, and check your ticket.
Kenya Airways lists 2 pieces of up to 23 kg each in Economy and 2 pieces of up to 32 kg each in Business on Africa to and from Europe routings. The airline says these are indications for flights it operates itself. The allowance may differ if the flight is a codeshare or involves another airline.
Emirates uses the piece concept on flights into Africa for tickets issued on or after 9 August 2021. In Economy, Special fares allow 1 piece of up to 23 kg, and Saver, Flex and Flex Plus fares allow 2 pieces of up to 23 kg each. Premium Economy allows 2 pieces of up to 23 kg each, and Business allows 2 pieces of up to 32 kg each. If you stop over in Africa for more than a day, the weight concept may apply instead.
Extra baggage on Air Zimbabwe's London route
If you need more than your allowance, Air Zimbabwe publishes extra baggage rates for the London route. From London to Harare, prepaying up to 23 kg of extra baggage costs £150, and at check-in it costs £10 per kg. The airline states that rates are subject to change without prior notice and that payment is made at the airport of departure. Check its baggage page for the current rates before you travel, and ask us if you would like to talk through the options for a larger load.
How to check your own allowance
Your allowance belongs to your ticket, not to the route. Before you pack:
- Look at your booking confirmation or e-ticket for the baggage line.
- Check which airline operates each leg. On a connecting trip, the allowance can differ between airlines.
- Weigh each suitcase at home and keep every bag under the per-piece limit.
- Cabin baggage rules are separate and set by each airline, so check those on the airline's own page.
When you ask us for a quote, we show the baggage allowance for the fare we quote and tell you who operates each leg. You see it before you pay.

Where these figures come from
Each allowance comes from the airline's own page, read on 3 October 2026: Air Zimbabwe baggage, Ethiopian Airlines free baggage allowance, Kenya Airways baggage allowance and Emirates checked baggage. Airlines can change their rules without notice, so the airline's page and your ticket always come first.
